This is disastrous, hideous news. NHS England are hacking back the mental health support for hospital staff. One doctor takes their life every three weeks. One nurse takes their life every single week. These numbers will now INCREASE. Victoria Atkins - please do the right thing.

In academia, you'll meet people who command respect because of their ethics, morals & intellect. You'll also meet people who command respect because of seniority but have no substance behind them. The latter are cardboard cut-out scholars & you'll spot them easy enough.

Hugh McKenna The Foucauldian in me would argue that we haven't trained nurses particularly well in how to do research. As such, nurses struggle to produce knowledge. As knowledge is inextricably tied to power we often fail to seize any opportunities to advantageously change our conditions.

Nursing is the LARGEST health profession, one of the OLDEST and MOST DEDICATED with the GREATEST AMOUNT OF CONTACT with the public. But, we are not the most POWERFUL, not the BEST EDUCATED, not the BEST PAID OR RESOURCED, not the MOST POLITICALLY ASTUTE OR ACTIVE. WHY NOT?

Already seeing academics tweeting about how much work they will do whilst university closed. Rest assured I won’t be working. Our work needs to be sustainable, healthy, fit into a working week otherwise we just set false expectations for ourselves & the next generation….

One of the reasons we started the campaign was due to a conservative candidate implying he was a registered nurse when he was not.
In the UK anyone can use the trusted title even without any nursing qualifications, experience or registration.

1/3. As it is an election year, I really would welcome The RCN [and even other health unions] writing to political parties urging them to remind their candidates to be honest about their employment record when it comes to claims about NHS work and professional status.

A few thoughts on journal paper reviewers.

We have just completed some pretty large edits on a paper in response to a reviewer’s comments. It will improve the paper significantly, which is great and appreciated. Thank you. 1/10

workforce is a leaky bucket of skilled experienced people essential to safety critical work, The holes in the bucket are getting bigger by the day.
The answer isnt to keep filling the bucket faster.
A workforce plan that doesn't focus on retention is no solution
