Granted, the hard part is making sure the guardrail doesn't show, but still beautiful this morning on the Zim Smith Trail. (This is the Mourningkill.)

David Crosby, the musician I saw in concert more times than anyone else. Just by himself, fronting a band, twice with CSN, and in a duet concert with Nash. Amazing talent, amazing thinker, beautiful voice, innovator on many fronts. RIP, David.

As a boy in northern Minnesota, Bob Dylan thought of going to West Point. You need connections, said his father. You'd be better off in the local iron mines, said his uncle.

Geese this morning at Shenantaha Park in Malta. Also heard redwing blackbirds in the wetlands. Are birds fooled into thinking it's spring? #Itswinter

Think there are no threats to creative freedom today? Think again. Defenders of literary liberty need to speak up. I'll be participating in this event Oct. 5 at the Saratoga Library, reading from John Updike's "Rabbit Run."
