John Burn-Murdoch Financial Times Office for National Statistics (ONS) NHS England Transformation NHS England Jonathan Cribb Institute for Fiscal Studies Bank of England Institute for Government 21/ But this week has seen some other important data releases. Lets start with the (tragic) news that public satisfaction has reached a RECORD LOW😔. Some politicians are blaming "covid". The public are saying its "long waiting times, staffing shortages and lack of funding"

John Burn-Murdoch Financial Times Office for National Statistics (ONS) NHS England Transformation NHS England Jonathan Cribb Institute for Fiscal Studies Bank of England Institute for Government 22/ I'm sorry the data really do no support this being about "covid". Its MUCH deeper than that. Look at the Financial Times charts on the right - #waitinglists (& other metrics) are a #politicalchoice And its very obvious public satisfaction with the NHS (left) is ALSO a #politicalchoice

John Burn-Murdoch Financial Times Office for National Statistics (ONS) NHS England Transformation NHS England Jonathan Cribb Institute for Fiscal Studies Bank of England Institute for Government 23/ If you want to fix waiting lists (& A&E waits & cancer treatments waits) you need to #FixPay. Because pay is *CRUCIAL* to recruitment & retention. Look how public satisfaction has fallen off a cliff, as NHS pay has fallen off the same cliff. Its all related to #RETENTION

John Burn-Murdoch Financial Times Office for National Statistics (ONS) NHS England Transformation NHS England Jonathan Cribb Institute for Fiscal Studies Bank of England Institute for Government 25/ The official staff survey data report only went back to 2019 above, but I have trawled the data back to the start of austerity and its more *SHOCKING* Pay satisfaction has fallen off a cliff, nonemoreso than for doctors = the largest falls since 2019 = recipe for MORE IA👇

John Burn-Murdoch Financial Times Office for National Statistics (ONS) NHS England Transformation NHS England Jonathan Cribb Institute for Fiscal Studies Bank of England Institute for Government 26/ And again like I did above with public satisfaction, lets take the medical satisfaction line (left; orange) and transpose it to the pay chart (right; black). Its easy to see what is going on here. Deliberate destruction of pay causes destruction of service & satisfaction😔

John Burn-Murdoch Financial Times Office for National Statistics (ONS) NHS England Transformation NHS England Jonathan Cribb Institute for Fiscal Studies Bank of England Institute for Government 27/ I need to state that I have only charted "junior" & consultant pay as they have the best data which are "official stats". SAS grade doctors (who voted 'no' to their deal) & GPs (yesterday voted 99% to reject their imposition) have seen similar, if not worse & are more complex

Lovely speech from the new West Midlands Mayor Richard Parker thanking Andy Street for his service Andy Street spoke beautifully too. They both have such an obvious pride in their home. Compare and contrast with Susan Hall in London 👀

It's encouraging to see Fire Brigades Union members sharing our concerns over the use of PAs & AAs in the NHS. Today we thank them for passing their motion, highlighting the impact of deskilling a public sector workforce where expertise in public safety is crucial.

"If an incoming government under Keir Starmer wants to continue lying, then strikes will have to continue." Healthcare staff are the only workers who have not received pay restoration, says Dr Dr Robert Laurenson, on the first day another wave of junior doctors' strike. 📺 Sky 501

Agree or disagree, this is the reason doctors are striking to have our pay restored. Agree or disagree, but please be fully informed. Watch this excellent interview from Dr Robert Laurenson
