This is an amazing time lapse made by Abhimat Gautam of the 24 years of imaging data that went into our S0-2 gravitational redshift measurement. youtube.com/watch?v=1rKF9h…

"Einstein's right, at least for now"—@ucla astronomy professor Andrea Ghez. Astronomers have shown that Einstein's ideas about space & time still hold true as the best description yet of how gravity works. Via @nbcnewsmach nbcnews.to/30WkhKL

Here's a timelapse of images over 2.5 hr from May from W. M. Keck Observatory of the supermassive black hole Sgr A*. The black hole is always variable, but this was the brightest we've seen in the infrared so far. It was probably even brighter before we started observing that night!

"It amazes me every time I go to the telescope." We spoke to 2020 Physics Laureate Andrea Ghez shortly after she heard the news of her #NobelPrize. She shares her motivation for becoming an astrophysicist and describes the prize as "an opportunity and a responsibility."

Congrats to Roger Penrose, Reinhard Genzel & Andrea Ghez for being awarded the #NobelPrize in Physics! Their work opened vast new possibilities for studying black holes, incl a two-decade #NSFfunded project from Ghez to track a star orbiting our galaxy's supermassive black hole.

Roger Penrose won the Nobel Prize for showing that black holes are an almost-unavoidable prediction of classical general relativity. Let's take a peek into what that entailed. 1/n

Congratulations to Professor Andrea Ghez of UCLA, whose work led to the discovery of a black hole at the center of our galaxy. As the 4th woman to win the Nobel Prize in Physics, she's an inspiration — a reminder that everyone can reach for the stars. latimes.com/science/story/…

The telescopes on Maunakea are very active in black hole research. In this video, Subaru Telescope Eng, W. M. Keck Observatory, Gemini Observatory were observing the center of the Milky Way with Nobel prize winner Prof. Ghez using Keck at that time. (Credit: Dan Birchall/NAOJ) #TechieTuesday
