The #fullmoon on Sat 9 Aug is the #SturgeonMoon, after the freshwater fish Native Americans caught at this time. To the Celts it was the #GrainMoon for the first harvest, & also the dispute moon, when disagreements between neighbours were settled. #FolkloreSunday

Margaret Lockwood in The Wicked Lady, 1945. The film tells the story of bored Lady Skelton, who adds excitement to her life by becoming a highwaywoman. Based loosely upon the life of a C17 highwaywoman, the film was an instant success upon its release. #WyrdWednesday

The Crystal Ball by John William Waterhouse, 1902. A spell is being woven with the aid of a book of magic & a skull. The skull has been restored to the painting in recent years, after being painted out by a previous owner. #BookChatWeekly #BookologyThursday #FolkloreSunday

Alice & the Dodo from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland as illustrated by John Tenniel in 1865. The dodo was a flightless bird found on the tropical island of Mauritius but sadly hunted to extinction by sailors arriving there by the mid C17th. #BookologyThursday #BookChatWeekly
