The EU needs to be reminded of their place. European nations need to come together and take back their sovereignty.

RTÉ News They have the legal right to do lots of things, including ignoring reporters they take a personal disliking to, boycotting journalists they disagree with, etc. But that doesn't mean they are doing the right thing or acting like grown-ups.

Asking Irish people how much they pay for rent

Hate speech laws are counter-productive. They are also profoundly illiberal. They've damaged the UK and we don't want the same. I asked the European Commission to drop threatened proceedings against Ireland and hate speech laws.

Around the world, governments are threatening & censoring US social media platforms for legal speech. Now, Secretary Marco Rubio Department of State says it will deny visas to foreign nationals engaged in censorship against Americans, US tech companies, and people posting from inside the US.

For too long, Americans have been fined, harassed, and even charged by foreign authorities for exercising their free speech rights. Today, I am announcing a new visa restriction policy that will apply to foreign officials and persons who are complicit in censoring Americans.

Foreigners who work to undermine the rights of Americans should not enjoy the privilege of traveling to our country.  Whether in Latin America, Europe, or elsewhere, the days of passive treatment for those who work to undermine the rights of Americans are over.

The Commission's approach goes beyond banning incitement to hatred. Ireland has criminal laws for that exact offence, yet we are now being threatened with proceedings unless we introduce new laws targeting “hateful” speech.

It was a huge honour to speak in a parliamentary briefing on hate speech legislation. One MEP, one Senator, two TDs and two barristers including myself took part. Ireland has less than one week to enact this unwanted provision which was dropped by our elected representatives
