We're launching a campaign, “The A-Z of Ending Sexual Violence,” to shed light on concepts like awareness, prevention, support and justice. Kicking it off with A for ACCOUNTABILITY: to hold perpetrators responsible. Without it, justice is elusive and cycles of violence continue.

Today we focus on a powerful tool for change: B for BYSTANDER INTERVENTION. Bystander intervention isn't just about being a witness; it's about being an active ally. Learn the 5 Ds of Bystander Intervention to empower yourself to act safely and effectively.

Consent is an active, ongoing, and enthusiastic "yes." It can never be assumed due to past relationships, silence, or intoxication. Understanding and practicing affirmative consent is the cornerstone of preventing sexual violence and fostering healthy, respectful relationships.

Support a Brave Survivor Preparing for Motherhood. A 16-year-old girl, a victim of sexual violence, is currently under our care at a shelter in Jinja. She was rescued by the Women’s Probono Initiative (WPI) and is due to give birth in just two weeks. Without family support.

D for DIGITAL VIOLENCE. This is real, insidious harm facilitated by online tools – and with the rise of AI, it's becoming even more sophisticated and pervasive. Your safety extends to digital spaces. Learn to recognize it, protect yourself and support those affected.

E is for ERECTION. Let's be crystal clear: An erection is a physiological response NOT an indicator of consent, desire or enjoyment. This is a critical myth to bust. Perpetrators often use this biological fact to blame or confuse victims. The truth is arousal never equals consent

Flirting is a delightful way to connect. However, it only signifies interest, not automatic consent for anything further. When flirting becomes unwanted and causes discomfort, it is no longer flirting, it's harassment. Always prioritize respect and boundaries.

Groping is the intentional, non-consensual touching of intimate body parts. This violation frequently happens in spaces like crowded clubs, on public transport, and in streets. Let's be clear: Groping IS sexual assault.

Sexual Harassment is unwelcome conduct that makes you feel unsafe, intimidated or offended. It's a violation of boundaries, misuse of power and a form of sexual violence. Let's commit to recognizing, calling out and stopping it. Your right to safety and respect is non-negotiable.

Individuals with multiple marginalized identities face compounded forms of violence, unique barriers to reporting & systemic discrimination when seeking justice or support. To truly combat sexual violence, we must center the diverse experiences ensuring solutions are inclusive.

Sexual assault jokes are NEVER funny. These aren't just "jokes"; they are harmful expressions that normalize violence, silence victims, and perpetuate rape culture. Our collective responsibility is to foster a culture of empathy and respect.
