Crews responded this afternoon to a structure fire, 4004 Melody Ln in Franklin Co. Heavy fire in a detached garage. Crews made a quick knockdown keeping it from spreading to the primary residence. Pasco Fire Dept assisted. No injuries and Red Cross is assisting the family.

Does defensible space really work when it comes to keeping buildings safe from wild land fires? You bet it does. KFD received the benefit of this a few days ago when a wild fire occurred near the Badger Canyon Apartments. No vegetation near the buildings played a key role.

As we draw closer to the 4th of July, the Fire Chiefs from Benton and Franklin Counties have come together to share an important safety message (vimeo.com/963713228/27c2…). We want to partner with our communities to ensure the 4th of July is safe and enjoyable for everyone.

2 wildland engines and a water tender from Franklin #3 assisting Franklin FD#5 with a fire off Elm Road 5 miles east of Hyw. 395. Fire is contained this afternoon at 15 acres. Old hay in the center of the fire wil continue to smoke for several days. Franklin FD#1 assisted.

Fire on scene of a semi truck fire northbound on Glade North Rd at Alder Rd. Fire is out with no injuries. Glade North between Birch Rd and Alder Rd is blocked by law enforcement until the roadway is clear.

(2) WA Structure Taskforces are enroute to assist Oregon State Fire Marshal on an EMAC request for mutual aid. God speed!

SE Washington Strike Team was mobilized yesterday to preposition in central Oregon to assist our neighboring state with the multiple wildland fires. They are currently near Dayville OR. Walla Walla, College Place, Pasco Fire, Benton FD#4 and Benton FD#1.

Fire responded to a fully involved haystack fire at 4121 Pasco Kahlotus Rd about 3 miles north of Pasco. The 300 tons is surrounded by irrigated farm land and will be allowed to burn itself out. The stack burn throughout the night.

Fire on scene of a 53' garbage trailer at 1721 Dietrich Rd in Pasco. We are working with management on scene on a plan to "dump and extinguish". No exposures and cause is unknown.

Fire on scene of an outbuilding fire 330 Decker Rd. No exposures and cause under investigation. Building a total loss.
