This blessing to her infant son was written in Duchess Georgiana’s blood. Exiled in Europe in 1792, she was afraid she would never see him again. It was to be given to him when older in the event of her death. #UnusualItem #Archive30 ARA Scotland #ExploreYourArchive

For #Archive30 #YourWorkplace, where else would the archivists be based but in the pantry? Well, it was the pantry in 1909. Today just some marks in the stonework and an old sink in the cupboard betray its former life. ARA Scotland #ExploreYourArchive

Often the archive creates the mystery, rather than resolving it! We don't know who this book belonged to, how it got here or who wrote it. Most poets featured date from around the end of C17th & handwriting seems to match that. Any guesses? #ArchiveMystery #Archive30 ARA Scotland

Attention all writers! Archives aren't meant to be DUSTY! Why do archives in stories always mention dust? Properly cared-for archives keep the dust away. See this 360-year-old account book - old yes, but dusty? No! #ArchiveMisconceptions #Archive30 ARA Scotland #ExploreYourArchive

For #Archive30 #ConservationWin, here is conservator Antony Oliver working his magic on a letters patent issued by Charles II in 1664, as part of a project funded by National Manuscripts Conservation Trust. Who would have guessed such beauty was hidden in that grubby box? #ExploreYourArchive ARA Scotland

Our #ArchiveCollection comes courtesy of Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire. From the early 1790s she studied mineralogy, and built up a significant mineral collection which she had catalogued. Both the minerals and their catalogues survive at Chatsworth today. #Archive30 ARA Scotland

Anyone for jelly? The archive of remarkable French-trained cook Dora Lee (1892-1962) includes an early 20th-century catalogue issued by Jones Bros. who supplied everything the successful chef could possibly need. #ArchiveFoodAndDrink #Archive30 ARA Scotland #ExploreYourArchive

It’s impossible to choose a single #FavouriteItem, but this member of the archive team is quite fond of these little dance cards with their original pencils from 1913 – they are the only ones we have in the archive! ARA Scotland #ExploreYourArchive #Archive30

Hear, Hear! Our volunteers make a huge contribution to the work of the Archives team Chatsworth

We provided Antony with several challenging documents as part of our conservation project funded by National Manuscripts Conservation Trust. It's nice to see him in action! Looking forward to seeing what he does with that 4.5-metre long pedigree...

Incredible courage from former John Rylands Research Institute and Library research fellow Dr Nataliia Voloshkova

Really enjoyed our tour of the wonderful new LambethPalaceLibrary building today!
