As I work on my (new) arrangement for cello of Schumann’s 2nd violin sonata, and practise my old arrangement of the 3rd, it’s nice to have this evidence, from the 1st sonata in the 1879 complete Schumann edition, that the sonatas would have been played on the cello in those days.
