In 2022, the final MLB season before the pitch timer, 8 pitchers threw 200+ innings. In 2012, 31 pitchers threw 200+ IP. In 2002, 42 did. In 1992, 54 did. The pitch timer does not explain this trend, because it did not exist during the time interval in question.
