By far the most ridiculous and outdated aspect of working on localized manga. It's understandable for older series but anything that relies on highly specific digital effects and stylized Japanese text makes the job exponentially harder

I knew him for a little bit, and provided some advice, before he started up Star Fruit back in 2020. I was proud to see how far he came in this publishing industry and hoped to see him continue to do well in the future. This was a huge shock to hear, my deepest condolences.

This applies to me but with lettering, often the first thing I notice when reading manga. “I recognize these fonts” “I recognize those screentone patterns” “why are they using anime ace” “the subtitled SFX don’t match the JP SFX” “why is the text placement so off” etc.
