The aid budget also covers a wide range of payments to the multilateral system. In the humanitarian sector, big and important appeals in countries such as Yemen and Syria are hugely under funded. Australian aid needs an increase to meet our international fair share.

Last week, we asked Deakin University's Fiona Tarpey what pushes localisation forward. Her response? Local leaders have seized opportunities in the wake of COVID-19 but Australia needs to better realise power dynamics. Read the Intel here - devintelligencelab.com/the-intel/

I remember how fabulous the Pacific regional dialogue was Dr Jemilah Mahmood with Pacific leaders powerfully articulating the demands around #localisation and #shiftingthepower. But also the beginning of the pushback...

Is the international humanitarian system irrelevant in Ukraine? Great Ben Ramalingam🧵from and HumanitarianOutcomes report. In a crisis where the response has been almost entirely led by the government and civil society, the international response is failing to support them. Again.

Critical quote from Australian Foreign Affairs "Bilateral aid may be subject to geopolitical calculations, but emergency relief shouldn’t be. Canberra should by now understand that climate change-related aid will be a consistent expense for Australia and needs to be factored into its budgets.
