Take two planets and draw lines connecting them as they orbit. A beautiful cardioid flower pattern will emerge! Now what happens if you vary the ratio of the planets’ orbital radii?

The biggest misconception of graduate school I see is that you are going to learn science directly from your professors. Even if you learn more from your PI than from any one other person, you will learn far more in aggregate from other trainees than any one professor.

Plot cos(n θ) from θ=-π to +π. Print it out on a strip of paper and wrap it around a semicircle. Now project it straight onto the diameter. What started as a trig function is now a *polynomial*. Congratulations, you just invented the Chebyshev polynomials!

I have seen several people argue that serial harassers shouldn't be removed from research collaborations since this would hurt the science being done. What about the effect of losing the science done by the victims that are pushed out of the field? Why is this never considered.
