One of the many exciting Thomas things happening for the 80th this year has been the sudden shift in the direction for the toys. A lot of people have been fairly wondering what happened, and hopefully this “rejected” pitch that I presented to Mattel may provide some insight… 🧵

In December 2023 I was asked to help put together a pitch for the future of the Thomas brand, with the toys at the center, titled Back on Track (BOT). The original 26 books served as the main basis and I handled the artwork, translating the illustrations into character designs.

like a true railway. I personally think this would be a huge financial win for Mattel in the long run. They could build out a 5 year strategy to bring Thomas toys back to a powerhouse and stop remaking the same characters with new molds every 2 years.

A blast from the past; a Thomas themed menu from when Dansbury Depot in Pennsylvania had a restraurant, as well as the toy store called The Green Caboose. The menu is from 1997 but I remember it being the same in 2000.
