Germany can't reverse shutdown of nuclear power plants because of a complex regulatory process. That's like an airline captain refusing to make an emergency landing at an airport because of night time noise regulations.

The Aztec Pantheon is incredibly rich and complex. It was really great to work with these beautiful illustrations in this project with The Pudding!

WTF happened in 1971 (or basically the 70s)? We made it hard to build homes in cities, so that costs from arbitrary scarcity became the driving force of our economy. I argued this in Shut Out, but I think I underestimated the importance of it.

My take on rent control is simple: The Best rent control is landlords desperately trying to fill their vacant units because we have abundant housing and they have to compete on price or amenities or both. Build housing.

The toughest & most important public transit conversation most cities need to have is about RIDERSHIP VS COVERAGE. My friend Jarrett Walker explains this well. Too many cities are using insufficient transit funding to spread poor service transit everywhere. humantransit.org/2018/02/basics…

More and more countries achieve to decouple economic growth from COβ‚‚ emissions. Just made this new chart that shows the evidence for 25 countries. Growth is up, emissions down.

Important subtext of yesterday's πŸ‡«πŸ‡·πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ statement by Lindner & Le-Maire: DE now officially accepts the Commission's communication for the reform of the fiscal rules as basis for negotiations. Given the mood in Berlin, this was all but clear. So, good news for reform prospects.

If you want to reduce your carbon footprint, focus on what you eat, not whether your food is local. The chart shows why: transport tends to account for only a small share of greenhouse gas emissions β€” the differences between different food choices are much larger.

...Lagarde literally told us she is committed to cool down inflation. And that she will send Europe through a serious recession because of that. This kind of non-nuanced stance in Europe has last been seen with Draghi, but obviously... 13/
