We were promised proper scrutiny of trade deals by Parliament time & time again. Government has completely failed to give Parliament the proper opportunity to discuss, debate and scrutinise the Australia Free Trade Agreement and with that every farmer in the UK has been betrayed.

This isn’t just farming’s problem; it’s bad news for all of us. If 40°c was a wake up call, then we should all be concerned about importing carbon-heavy food from the four corners of the earth to displace more sustainable 🇬🇧 production.

We have lost 227,350 FR birds, 24k Organic and 447k Colony since 1st October which is >743k this season. We lost 1.8m layers in the 2021 season. Some losses will be due to AI, but the main reason we have no egg is price. Producers are losing 29.61p/doz!

This is not okay. A recent study showed that if the US eliminated ALL MEAT from our diets, we would only decrease GHG emissions by 2.6%, or 0.36% globally. At the same time, we’d suffer from even more nutrient deficiencies and our obesity rates would climb.

Sums up so much thats wrong with farming, also illustrates the gravy train of added cost layers which benefit neither farmer or consumer just the parasitic middleman.
