For our second poem by Edward Baugh today we share "June Roses." The poem mourns the death of his aunt. It offers us a glimpse into Baugh's childhood with the mention of the family's house at Boundbrook. The poem laments the lost beauty of this house which no longer exists.

Welcome to Day 2 of our JWIL online residency focused on the poetry of Edward Baugh. Today we continue our exploration of Baugh's representation of childhood and of family.

We will share two poems in which Edward Baugh offers us images of his mother. Velma Pollard will read the poem "Words." Lisa Outar will read the poem "A Rainwashed Town by the sea"

The poem "A Rainwashed Town By the Sea" is another of the Edward Baugh's poems about Port Antonio poems and continues the complex mapping of home, memory and place that we see throughout his poetry.

In this poem we also get a glimpse of Baugh as a school boy at Titchfield, the school he attended in Port Antonio. The school has a beach and from the old colonial battlements on its campus one can gaze out to the sea. This is the view that we have in the poem.
