For our second poem by Edward Baugh today we share "June Roses." The poem mourns the death of his aunt. It offers us a glimpse into Baugh's childhood with the mention of the family's house at Boundbrook. The poem laments the lost beauty of this house which no longer exists.

The poem "A Rainwashed Town By the Sea" is another of the Edward Baugh's poems about Port Antonio poems and continues the complex mapping of home, memory and place that we see throughout his poetry.

In this poem we also get a glimpse of Baugh as a school boy at Titchfield, the school he attended in Port Antonio. The school has a beach and from the old colonial battlements on its campus one can gaze out to the sea. This is the view that we have in the poem.

I’m devastated to hear about the passing of an incredible young woman, activist and hero Hydeia Broadbent. In 1992, I did a Nickelodeon special called “A Conversation with Magic”, and 7-year-old Hydeia and I made an incredible impact. Hydeia changed the world with her bravery,

Faizal Deen 🇬🇾🇹🇹🇨🇦 Hope to see you soon too Faizal. Been thinking about what you said about never being 'only' anything & yes my only 1/4 Chinese pronouncement seems to be my default statement, having been greeted with "what I thought you'd look different, thought you'd have Chinese hair...

Faizal Deen 🇬🇾🇹🇹🇨🇦 in a country that has as its motto 'out of many one people'. So yeah, you'd think people in such a country wouldn't be surprised by an 'exotic' name & someone who looks just like them, right. Many things we can write about in the Caribbean... classism, ageism, anancyism, racism..

Yesterday we lost a young, principled, and brilliant intellectual, Elleni Centime Zeleke. If courage had a face it would look like Elleni. Her short but meaningful life on this planet is a reminder that life is profoundly unfair. But that was not the spirit she wanted to leave
