I bet you didn’t know Martinsville had a beach just for Black people with its own hotel and pool. The Sandy Beach Resort, owned by Dr. Dana O. Baldwin, was located right behind what we now call the Kohler area; it became defunct in the 1970’s after experiencing flood damage.✨

This Saturday from 11-2, we are kicking off Open House for our Divine 9 Exhibit! The exhibit will be featured in the museum the entire month of January, so don’t miss it!

Did you know there was a Black owned newspaper in Martinsville in the 60’s called The Martinsville Tribune? It focused on the accomplishments of local African Americans. The first issue was published on July 21, 1961 and could be purchased for just .10 cents!#BlackHistoryMonth
