This is the best prize for young British journalists. Three months working in Washington Post and chance to explore the US. Deadline for applications Friday.

I was pleased to be interviewed for this US documentary on Julian Assange by Al Jazeera's Fault Lines. Assange has been in Belmarsh Prison since 2019 awaiting what will be, inevitably, extradition to the US. It is a terrible precedent for press freedom. aje.me/JulianAssange

This filter's called dramatic cool, a good description of Evan Gershkovich, the The Wall Street Journal reporter wrongly jailed in Russia for the past four weeks. #IStandWithEvan #JournalismIsNotACrime

I am pleased to be taking part in a panel this Saturday at the National Press Club in Washington DC to make a case against the extradition of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to the US. 1/3 act.progressive.international/belmarsh/

The US indictment under the Espionage Act is solely about 2010 leaks reported by The Guardian, the New York Times, Le Monde and provided insights into the conduct of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and what US diplomats were doing worldwide. 2/2 act.progressive.international/belmarsh/

All Assange did was embarrass the US government. He is held in Britain's high security jail, Belmarsh, This will be his fifth Christmas in the jail. Within hours of a pending court ruling, he could be on a flight to the US. This would set a terrible precedent for journalism. 3/3
