is that what i think it is? Another advocacy group using the front of protecting women & girls as a cover for their internalised misogyny and belief in victorian ideals of masculinity and femininity to legitimise control over women’s bodies in sport? Yes!

Evie Ashton (@evierashton) 's Twitter Profile Photo

so the sports journalism industry is fully aware that it’s one of the most white straight cis male middle class dominated industries and yet companies are using in-company referrals when recruiting. what a joke 💀

Evie Ashton (@evierashton) 's Twitter Profile Photo

when are we going to hold sports journalists to account for platforming and legitimising misogynistic views? Cannot fathom we are expected to work alongside editors & reporters that hide behind the ‘it’s the interviewees personal opinion’ defence

a women’s team will have one bad game and suddenly it means the entire gender shouldn’t even play sport let alone get equal pay

Evie Ashton (@evierashton) 's Twitter Profile Photo

journalists will spend years practising & perfecting interview techniques and thousands on an industry qualification only for sports media companies to bring in recently retired professional athletes for stories🙃

Evie Ashton (@evierashton) 's Twitter Profile Photo

i can't get my head around how the media still rely on the "safety argument" because SO many professional and grassroots female cricketers have said playing men's cricket made them a better cricketer with coaches even encourage players to do so for their development

Fun fact: back in the 1980s women used to compete in _the_ darts contests, not the _men's_ darts contests. They sex-segregated them because they didn't like the women doing as well as the men. "unfair male advantage" is the most mythical of myths in darts.

There is definitely something to be said about sport feminists’ and the women’s sport movement’s failure to acknowledge Britain’s history of colonialism and empire, and how sport was built upon that

"We could have easily gone out there and not won a game this season. Everyone would have gone ‘I told you so’. But we didn’t..."✍️ Thank you to RamsbottomCC Women for speaking about their first season in the men's league, what it means to them & the wider cricket community.

There is no easy way to talk about this. This week the UN announced we are on track to reach up to 3.1° Celsius of warming. We are slated to blow past the goals of the Paris Accords. Here's what this means. (1/9) 🧵

It says A LOT how people are actively misconstruing her point to make her sound ungrateful. She knows the population doesn’t retire her age. It’s about the huge disparity of earnings within the women’s game.

excited to finally get on the bluesky bandwagon: bsky.app/profile/evieas… will continue my usual sport x politics x journalism ramblings on here of course but now you can find them on another platform too!

Less than 8% of ECB, FCC or CCB staff are disabled, compared to 23% of the working age population. Michael Powell’s story demonstrates the essential rich experiences, skills and perspectives disabled talent bring to cricket. Take note from Hampshire Cricket
