#QueerPrompts Day 18: what influenced your story? Depends on the story. Any/all of: -Personal experiences. Writing is cheaper and more fun than therapy. -Places I’ve lived in or visited. -Frustration with the world I see around me. -Escapism!

In addition to baby name finders etc, I also look on statistics websites to see what names were popular at different times. To a broader range of names, I look at end credits of TV programmes and films. I also read gravestones.

#QueerPrompts Joining the March fun late. To catch up, I’m Evelyn. WIP: a murder mystery set in a Scottish country house. Deals with themes of grief, recovery and revenge. March goals: querying and getting past a writing slump.

#QueerPrompts Day 9: ace characters’ goals. Steph wants to know what was bothering her squish before he died. Mhairi wants to track down a criminal ring stealing art. They both want to survive the week…and maybe find a happy ever after.

#QueerPropmts Day 12: can MC make a long distance relationship work? Yes, so long as there are lots of video calls, messages, and synchronised binge watches. Physical separation doesn’t matter so much if you do stuff together anyway.

#QueerPrompts D13: Character who’s a hugger. Pat: anyone and everyone, including strangers. Steph: receives hugs but embarrassed by how much she likes them. Family & friends only. Mhairi: not sure yet, but possibly only with treasured people.

#QueerPrompts D17: luck or fate in story More a case of a series of events, positive and negative. Are they down to luck, fate, villainy, or the entropic nature of existence? Depends on your point of view.

#QueerPrompts Day19: Gay or lesbian couple On page: a gay couple. In the background/past a lesbian relationship. But the pairings are secondary characters, and the relationships aren’t the focus of the story. MC dreams of a QPR.

#QueerPrompts Day 31: monthly wrap up. Any writing goals or good intentions I had this month fell by the wayside. It’s hard juggling day job, writing, reading & quality of life stuff; something has to give. But I took time to enjoy spring.

#QueerPrompts Day 3: opening line. Steph white-knuckled the steering wheel and wished she hadn’t accepted Pat’s invitation. (Odds on this will change before I’m done though.)
