Husband's school just awarded 20 hours of continuing ed credit to teachers for pivot to online learning last year. Love this recognition of their hard work, learning, and growth while under tremendous strain. No cost, huge value. #vted #meaningfulsupport

Very interesting notice of a potential rulemaking from the FTC related to algorithmic decision-making (apparently anticipated in 2022).

I tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday. I am symptomatic. I am fully vaccinated and boosted. I was isolated alone for over a year before being vaccinated because I am severely immunocompromised. I am scared and furious.

Here’s a frustrating secret Today - in midst of Omicron - millions of Americans are begging for access to rapid tests, thousands dying daily. Get this: many manufacturers with very high quality rapid tests are begging To ship 100’s of millions of tests to US But can’t. 1/

1. Those who focus on “Most kids will be fine if they get #COVID19” are missing the big picture. If we let kids get COVID in the next few weeks (which is a foregone conclusion with #Omicron without multiple layers of protection in schools), we create some major problems… 🧵

Just leaving the ER. It was a long day. And a stunning amount of Covid. Today I worked in an area that was temporarily converted into a makeshift ICU during the first COVID wave. Here’s what different from then. And also what challenges we’re facing with this surge in NYC: 🧵

went and translated that zelensky selfie video from the streets of kyiv, just to know what he was actually saying in response to the russian reports that he had fled -- so here it is for the rest of you, plus this music naturally felt right. enjoy.

Federal coverage for COVID-19 treatment and testing for the uninsured ends today. Coverage for vaccine administration for the uninsured ends in about two weeks. The rationing of COVID-care by ability to pay begins.

It’s not that complicated. Vaccines, masks, and tests all reduce but don’t eliminate risk. Using multiple layers reduces risk more, and more people using them reduces risk more. Acknowledging that there is no magic wand isn’t anti-anything. It’s reality.

A general prenatal timeline; 8w: typical confirmation of pregnancy visit 12w: nuchal ultrasound and NIPT to assess risks (CVS can be used to confirm anomalies at this stage) 15-16w: amniocentesis, if preferred. Remember you wait days for results. 20w: anatomy scan

But (as Cory Cory Doctorow NO LONGER ON TWIT TER) and Rebecca Giblin (@rgibli ) point out in their book "Chokepoint Capitalism" - interoperability is also possible for big tech monopolies. That we don't have it is a choice - by Big Tech, and also by regulators. eff.org/interoperablef…
