My lukewarm take on data literacy is that teaching actual literacy up to 18 would be more useful than maths. Most people don't need trigonometry to work with data. They do need to know that e.g. "UK" != "United Kingdom" and will be treated as separate strings by any machine.

NEW: I’m not sure people fully appreciate how dire the US life expectancy / mortality situation has got. My column: enterprise-sharing.ft.com/redeem/75e5e3d… And some utterly damning charts. 1) at *every* point on the income distribution, Americans live shorter lives than the English.

My head continues to explode. This detail was lost under the whole 10% thing. ...Google swapped winners & runners-up?? It increased revenue but *they don't know why* 🤯 Implicitly, the action was taken for other reasons (to suppress top advertisers) and had happy side effects

I run a trade surplus with the Telegraph, which pays me to write, and a deficit with Tesco, which does not. I have absolutely no intention of quitting my job in order to work as a cashier, even though it would erase that deficit.

It wasn't just the tariffs, it was the flakiness of the "analysis" underpinning them. At that point, even sanewashing became impossible
