1/20/2022: Cold. You could see your breath, but for the weighted-blanket fog. I saw Ben, whose bike lock stuck yesterday and had to carry his board home. Back today to cut it, he stared at a stripped frame as I shivered, my dripping wetsuit half on. He left the triangle to rust.

4/30/2022: A dozen retired surfers sit deep out from tower 26. As I get frustrated by an ongoing gray lull and the gross-smelling water, one of the group whoops and paddles in without even trying to ride. "They call that Latte Reef," the surfer by me says as he steals my wave.

6/15/2022: Everyone bailed, but I didn't know that yet. The parking attendant and I chatted. He was retired but did this to meet people. For an hour he told me about his 50 years in Hawaii, and how his dog survived a coyote attack. "Paddle out, they aren't coming," he ordered.

my favorite thing today is the Dune subreddit banning AI art, and everybody there unilaterally agreeing with it because humans permanently outlawed computers and AI in Dune lore

1/30/2021: Heavy air chilling my nose, ears. The waves grow in size as do the number of surfers holding their breath as someone takes off. A pair panic trying to exit and need the lifeguard boat to rescue them. The lineup grumbles with jealousy at the warm blankets wrapping them.
