I successfully went reflection chasing recently at Portage Lake. The reflection was smoother about an hour after this panoramic photo stitch (7 separate photos), but I liked the lighting in this one better (913pm).

I set my alarm last night to find the aurora. Instead I found noctilucent clouds, the moon in the northern sky with an amazing amount of earthshine, and maybe some aurora. In AK, we get to watch the moon rise in the northern sky! It rose at 1214am and will set 1106pm tonight.

Clouds quickly developed right as it got dark last night in Anchorage. So I took an un-planned late night drive to find some holes in the clouds in Portage Valley. Portage Lake was prepared with a great reflection.

I was standing there in awe when a fish jumped and spooked me (wave at 4 seconds). My camera wasn't spooked. It kept on photographing like a trooper. I then went back to awing. Later, I walked over fresh bear scat and began saying "hey bear" to bears I couldn't see or hear.

The aurora was everywhere last weekend. This was looking straight up with my widest lens (14mm). I needed way more than 1 camera! (Camera settings 0.8 sec exposure, F2.2, ISO4000)

Clouds have been persistent here the last week. This is last weekend, panning across the sky from west through southeast in Portage Valley. The glacier you coming into scene is Explorer Glacier.

I'm so happy aurora season is back. Here's a timelapse of the aurora from Beluga Point looking toward Anchorage early Mon morning. Satellites, planes, vehicles, and clouds going by with red lights glowing on the Fire Island wind turbines in the distance. So much to capture!
