Creating routines and making connections in LKDSB

Our students and staff at SJM are full of gratitude! Throughout the month of October, each homeroom wrote what they were thankful for on their Thankful Pumpkin and they are now on display in the front foyer. It is so nice to see all of these collectively. 🎃

I am so grateful and excited to embark on a new learning experience with SJM and some members of the LKDSB Trauma team. We are just beginning an after school book talk focusing on Fostering Resilient Learners- Strategies for Creating a Trauma Sensitive Classroom.

What a great learning experience in Ms. Sazonov’s gr 5 class! The students made promises between themselves and the land, created wampum belts, presented their promises during a community circle with Ms. Sands-Gamble and then put their ideas into action by cleaning up the yard.

Grateful to be participating in an after school subitizing pd session with a dedicated group of SJM Early Years educators and LKDSB coaches. Looking forward to the next 3 Tuesdays where we can continue our Early Years math learning along with Heather Wark. Heather Wark

Thank you Candice Fung for the beautiful picture book, I am Enough by Grace Byers. Our primary classes all really enjoyed exploring this book and discovering how each student has their own unique reasons of how they are enough.

Congratulations to Confederation Central’s, Mrs. Griffin! She was nominated for a Back to School contest through Raven Reads, a subscription service containing Indigenous Literature. She and each of her students will each receive a box. We are so excited for their arrival.

There is great phonemic learning taking place each day in our primary classrooms at Confed! Students are learning to segment, blend, isolate, rhyme, and substitute. These are all important foundational skills for reading and will help students to become proficient readers.

Mrs. Swan’s grade 5/6 had an “enlightening” afternoon learning about apprenticeships, soft skills, and circuits. The students used Squishy Circuits to create a masterpiece that could light up or make sounds. It was a great event! #Experiencethetrades
