We refuse to be sacrificed for a vision of our city that doesn’t include us. We’re not going to sit back and watch city leaders sell our neighborhoods off to the highest bidder. We’re not going anywhere. 💥 Fill out this survey or DM to get involved: bit.ly/KCrents

“So when we started organizing fast food workers, the lowest paid workers in the country and started to lift up from the bottom, we really told the story of the working class.” Terrence Wise in #TheSumOfUsPod with Heather McGhee out now!

We currently have 75 tenant leaders at City Hall to voice their concern regarding Mayor Q’s proposed ordinances. Housing is a human right and the Mayor seems to only be interested in short-term and unrealistic affordability.

Our leaders took time away from their jobs and families to provide testimony Neighborhood, Planning and Development Committee. In an ideal world, we’d be able to trust our elected officials to do right by us, their constituents.

It’s funny when people yell at us to go the “right” channels to oppose harmful policy. When poor and working people write hundreds of emails, make phone calls, and show up to testify—the “right” channels—we are ignored. For them it’s a performance. For us it’s our lives.

Mayor Mayor Q says he's creating the "missing middle" housing for teachers, City workers, etc. We have teachers in our base. Same w City workers. We organize w bus drivers, line cooks, people on fixed income. They can't afford what they Mayor considers affordable.

TENANTS WIN $50 MILLI FOR DEEPLY AFFORDABLE HOUSING. We've seen enough! With 70% of the city reporting, Question 2 passes with approx. 70% support. Kansas City votes to #HouseThePeople, authorizing a $50 million bond for housing between $550-750 dollars.

If someone stole $6,240 from you, would you want to do something about it? KC low-wage workers packed the room at last night’s monthly Stand Up KC leadership cmte mtg to discuss how to defeat pre-emption so our local elected leaders can pass laws to improve our lives (1/4)

❤️‍🔥🧵 TLDR: Since 2019 Chaves has looked at the Northland as a place to cash in. When policy started to get in the way he decided he would cash in on the Northland Strong PAC & throw some money in City politics. Public dollars should go to public goods. NOT Billionaires Pockets

1/2 “Kansas City Royals showed pretty designs. But the ppl walking around in those videos aren't real. We are. Workers like me are struggling to pay our bills & care for our families. We could be footing the bill for a new stadium too? We need Good Jobs & Affordable Housing for All! #CBAnow

I voted no today on question 1. I am a unionist, I don't like funding billionaires with my labor. It's my labor and they are the thieves of the profits I generate. Why would I give them the money they couldn't steal so they can displace Bipoc, poor and working class people?
