Last month, I had the opportunity to attend the Zero Discrimination Day event at the UN House in Accra. And one truth stood out: Discrimination is not always loud—but its impact is systemic. 🧵

At a convening by UNAIDS and partners, stories revealed a pattern: People living with HIV are not excluded because of facts— but because of stigma.

Let’s be clear: HIV is not a moral failure. Not a character flaw. It is a health condition. Yet stigma continues to shape access, dignity, and opportunity.

📊 Data from UNAIDS: • 1 in 8 denied healthcare or avoid clinics due to stigma • 1 in 5 experience discrimination in healthcare settings This is not perception. It is structural.

From the “Beyond the Walls” performance to the Yawa Game, one thing became clear: We have normalized exclusion.

As someone working in education, policy, and advocacy: We cannot talk about inclusive systems if stigma still determines who feels safe to access them.
