My working visit to Hungary made me more depressed about the state capture and repression by Viktor Orbán and more determined to fight for the Hungarian citizens’ rights.

Hungarians have the same right to freedom, justice, and equal treatment as any other EU citizen. They deserve a state that protects their rights instead of denying and destroying them. It is high time for the EU to defend them genuinely.

Yesterday I spoke with the people who are under investigation because they reveal and combat corruption. The Sovereignty Law is Orbán’s latest tool to silence defenders of the rule of law. The infringement procedure is vital, but the urgent situation requires an interim measure.
