Come and say hello! I will be "virtually" showing my poster (S45E-0346) at #AGU21 on Thursday afternoon about the clustering of seismicity along the central San Andreas Fault in four decades and how we can use that to infer the fault coupling with the comparison to geodetic data.

Researchers analyzed continuous seismic data produced by vehicular traffic. With the distributed acoustic sensing data, the team developed a near-surface shear velocity model with a subkilometer resolution 2 orders of magnitude higher than typical models. eos.org/research-spotl…

Ever wondered how the Arabian plate is moving and rotating, how the opening of the Red Sea increases towards the south, whether the Arabian plate is internally deforming or not. You will find answers in Renier's Renier new Tectonics paper agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/20… KAUST PSE

For #Earthweek we are featuring enviro/geo work in the Seismo Lab! Subsurface water is vital to sustaining life on Earth. Turning internet cables into dense seismic networks Zhichao Shen Zhongwen Zhan use DAS to monitor the subsurface water cycle in high spatiotemporal resolution

An updated overview of co-seismic offset along Longitudinal Valley fault, September 18 M6.8 #earthquake in #Taiwan, using Copernicus #Sentinel2 imagery; >30km (?) of rupture along Longitudinal Valley. Northern and southern ends not clear due to heavy noise and cloud presence.

Our new paper is published online nature. We use telecommunication fiber cables to image high-frequency sources during the earthquake rupture. Together with dynamic rupture modeling, we identify four fault asperities, which strongly influence the full rupture process.

It is always impressive to remind myself of the scale geographically and how small it is compared with Southern California and those neighboring historic earthquakes.

Long-wavelength radar signals—once dismissed as noise—can reveal how entire tectonic plates rotate. In our paper on GRL, we use radar interferometry over the Arabia to infer plate motion—without relying on GNSS. Zhang Yunjun , Mark Simons Open Access link: doi.org/10.1029/2025GL…
