Have you spotted any strangely shaped acorns this year? These explosive growths are galls, caused by tiny knopper gall wasps which lay their eggs within the buds of the developing acorns! The wasp larvae pupate inside the gall before emerging as adults. See if you can find some!

Our favourite otter mascot, Sir David Otterborough, was out with our staff this weekend at the brilliant Festival of Glass at Riverside House Stourbridge in Stourbridge. Our team led bug hunts, green woodworking sessions and wild arts and crafts to help visitors get up close to nature.

Did you know the UK is home to 20% of the world's remaining lowland heathland? We've sadly lost 80% globally in 200 years! Sutton Park is the largest tract of heath in Birmingham & the Black Country, supporting much wildlife, including over 130 species of bees and wasps.
