I so appreciate this statement from @NRCDV about the damage done by the criminalization of intimate partner violence, which has long been supported by the Violence Against Women Act. Looking forward to working together towards a non-carceral #VAWA.

A woman soldier’s possible sexual assaulted by refugees is horrible, but this Fort Bliss story without context just serves to feed racism and xenophobia. Women in the military are far more likely to be raped by fellow soldiers, in a persistently systemically sexist institution.

Most guys don’t look in the mirror & see a problem. But it’s staring us in the face. Sexual violence begins long before you think it does. #DontBeThatGuy
