Victoria Klee giving an overview of dementia - differ by pathology/area of the brain affected, symptoms/presentation, average age of onset, genetics, progression of the disease. But lots of overlap between the different types. ^ER #NSGC22

VK: FTD accounts for 10-20% of worldwide dementia cases & the most common form of dementia when onset is <60 years old. Caused by atrophy of frontal & temporal lobes. 3 subtypes - behavioral (bvFTD) and language (sv-PPA or nfv-PPA). ^ER #NSGC22 nia.nih.gov/health/what-ar…

VK: Many emerging genetic contributors to FTD & ALS. Red flags for GCs = muscle/strength issues, respiratory probs, rapid decline in function (ALS), language probs, behavioral changes, suicide (FTD). Important to consider within cultural norms. ^ER #NSGC22 ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…

Can genetic testing labs give us their version of Spotify Wrapped? “These are the results you called us about the most! Here’s how long you waited on hold for the answers” “Top 5 confusing VUS’s you received this year”

Not all physicians know about FTD, so it is often misdiagnosed or not diagnosed at all. AFTD developed checklists to help identify red flags for the two most common types of FTD - #bvFTD and #ppa. Download them here:bit.ly/3ZbySQy

#GeneChat - do we have any platform that can compare two panels and tell us what genes each test has in common and what is missed? I needed a gene Venn diagram instead of comparing panels of 100-1000s of genes 🧬 🆘

Thank you Jewel!! This will definitely save me time in the future 🙌🏼 Yes I did just read through 2,300 genes to cross reference a 320 gene panel via Ctrl F 🤦🏻‍♀️
