youtu.be/_q1N4J5oTSE Hm, what's the fissure eruption in #Iceland doing today? Can't help but take a peek now I'm home from work, but can't see much via this particular webcam (Lava Centre), because volcanic vapour emissions. Gnarly! #lava

Advice for anyone thinking of going to the lava fissure eruption site in #Reykjanes #Iceland: think again. Only one entry point, and it's a 20 km round hike (not to mention gnarly surface volcanic vapours, rough terrain, and risks from other fissures opening up)!

In addition to the #volcanic gas plume, the #LitliHrutur #lava field is shrouded in #smoke from a #wildfire burning beyond the flow edge. The fire emissions exacerbate #AirQuality issues, and also contain CO₂ (and other gases) that could interfere with volcanic gas measurements.

Volcanologists: I know there have only been three eruptions like it, so it’s not much to go on—but is there any precedent for such regular fissure eruptions, like what’s happening in Reykjanes? Three consecutive summers is entertainingly periodic. ;)
