My speculation of what is likely for the gpt-oss LLM, based on OpenAI's patterns, statements and the leaked weights... • 120b and 20b versions • Both MoE, not dense • Instruct only, no base model • Restrictive license I hope I'm wrong about some of this

NEW Photo-realistic image generation by Flux & Krea is 🔥 FLUX.1 Krea [DEV] • Skin has texture and doesn't look shiny and weird • Laugh lines near mouth and jaw look real • Stubble and hairline don't seem painted on, but like natural growth • Even the ear has great contour

Knowing OpenAI's stance on "AI safety", the open source offering will probably not have a base model or open license. Because then it could be fine-tuned to remove censorship and content restrictions.

Troubling facts about American open source AI.. ▪︎ Google only makes small models ▪︎ Meta seems to have abandoned it ▪︎ xAI hasn't kept their promise to open grok All of them are positioned to make transparent frontier models!

The way I advocate for open source AI is not to be against proprietary corporate stuff. It's more about the freedom of choice that comes from having alternatives. If you want to learn more about open source, follow me.

The gpt-oss model is out in 120b and 20b sizes hot takes, haven't tested yet Good: ✅️ Open weights ✅️ Apache 2.0 License ✅️ 20b runs on device ✅️ GGUF Quants ✅️ Shows CoT Bad: 🚫 Censored 🚫 No base model

How to run GPT-OSS-20B privately on your computer 1) Download LM Studio 2) Click the "Search" icon 3) Download gpt-oss-20b quantized 4) The gear icon changes model settings 5) The wrench icon changes chat settings What are your home rig specs and which quant are you running?

Does the GPT-5 flop create a vacuum for other AI frontier models to fill? Will there be a shift in the standard and most popular model? Or will the press continue to focus on OpenAI as their main subject?

okay what I did here was I took a data set of ChatGPT interactions collected in the wild and reversed the "assistant" and "user" tags. fine-tuned llama 8B on some of that data and gave it the ability to message you first. try it at youaretheassistantnow.com 😊

What was the point of open sourcing Grok-2 if more advanced models are proprietary? I hope Grok-3 is retired when 4.20 comes out, so it can be opened up sooner rather than later. The faster xAI does this, the better it contributes to open research for the world's benefit.
