Aidan was not only World Health Organization (WHO)’s dynamic director in the fight against polio, but was a true champion for the most vulnerable children, having served with UNICEF and other humanitarian agencies in some of the most difficult regions in the world.

The re-emergence of polio in Gaza after a quarter century is another sobering reminder of how chaotic, desperate & dangerous the situation has become.   We cannot allow polio to spread in Gaza and threaten not just Gazans, but all children in the region. unicef.org/press-releases…

But to prevent the spread of polio, we need conditions on the ground that have not been present in Gaza for 10 months – access for the necessary supplies, and security for the health workers who will administer vaccines.

Catherine Russell (@unicefchief) 's Twitter Profile Photo

We need a ‘polio pause’ so vaccines can get into Gaza and be safely distributed before it’s too late. And most of all, we need a ceasefire.

New funding from @MohamedbinZayed will help health workers deliver polio vaccines to children across Gaza. We must stop the spread of polio in Gaza now, because polio anywhere is a threat to children everywhere. #EndPolio Reaching the Last Mile wam.ae/en/article/b4x…

More than 85,000 #children have been vaccinated against polio in #Gaza yesterday! With thanks to the Palestinian MoH, UNICEF, WHO in occupied Palestinian territory, UNRWA and all dedicated teams on the ground. Together, we are one step closer to stopping the spread and saving children's lives.

The most important element to us is that the pause in fighting is respected throughout the five days of the #polio campaign in #Gaza. My comments to The National News. thenationalnews.com/news/mena/2024…

Gaza’s polio campaign got off to a good start. So moved to see families bring out children using any means possible to get them vaccinated against #polio. My thanks to all involved for making this happen. bit.ly/4e5kLnt
