You may be aware of the archaeological dig taking place at Buckler's Hard over the last fortnight. It was requisitioned during WW2 as part of HMS Mastodon, and was used for the construction of motor torpedo boats, dummy landing craft, and a landing craft maintenance base. 🧵

Yesterday, two children found an American artillery bomb from World War II with a metal detector. It was determined that moving the bomb was too dangerous: It still had a detonator and about a kilogram of explosives. The bomb was safely detonated in a nearby field. #bombdisposal

Today I saw the stunning new 3.4km Colne Valley Viaduct: soon to be UK’s longest rail bridge, it frees up capacity & gives resilience to West Coast Mainline & other routes. It has won the Royal Fine Art Commission Trust Commission Trust’s Building Beauty award: it is graceful; monumental; superb.
