What is more attractive than magnetotactic bacteria? 🦠 🧲 In this work Zhang et al., carried out exciting culture-independent studies and characterisation of a novel magnetotactic Gammaproteobacterium! #FEMSMicrobiolEcol academic.oup.com/femsec/article…

The Armbruster Lab is officially open in the Department of Biological Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh! We're studying how bacteria in biofilms persist in the built environment & transition into the host to cause infections. Happy to be here! 🤓

A larger bacterium stuck on the slide but its flagella is whipping up a current which pulls all the non-motile smaller bacteria along it. Cute!

Great talk by @environmicrobio about cultivation and characterization of (really) novel methanogens at our Centre of Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science (CeMESS). Watch out - exciting stuff ahead.

Editorial now out on building microbial literacy through a child-centric curriculum. It's been an honour to contribute to this initiative under Ken Timmis' visionary lead. Microbes can change the world for the better, but not enough people know about them. …icro-journals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/17…

The time of the year when methanogenic microbes, invisible to the human eye, are at their highest activity and can create such large an impact in their environment. #voltaexperiment #methanogens #biogas #environmentalmicrobes
