Great piece by Hayley Clements & Alta De Vos on S. Africa's controversial National Biodiversity Economy Strategy. Helped me understand it better and how it tries to enhance the relevance of biodiversity conservation to the average South African. theconversation.com/south-africas-ā¦

Very cool paper by Mika Vermeulen of Wildlife Ecology Lab showing how mammals in the Kalahari often forage in hotter conditions to avoid nocturnal predators, Nice natural experiment across sites with and without lions. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.10ā¦

Teaching Stats & R to students here Mandela University in SA. My emotions are just as mixed as theirs. See anonymous live survey results below - sound familiar? I am so thankful for how hard my class is working. They have never used R before and we are already on pipe operators :)

Teaching Stats and R to BSc Hons students here MandelaUni George. Amazed at their R coding after just 2 weeks. Below script from assignment 2. Most have done almost no stats and zero R. They sat for 5 hrs in working at their assignments, though they were free to leave after 2h
