An interesting one. We know spacing and retrieval are powerful, but underused. Often the missing element in applying the science of learning is motivation. This new study shows how a well-designed nudge can make students actually use them by encouraging spaced practice through

A recent article claimed that the Science of Learning and Direct Instruction is "neoliberal dogma that is working to de-skill the teaching profession". This is my response. Link in reply ⬇️

Writing is obviously a tool for communication. But it is so much more than that. It is a means of expanding limited working memory and a tool for thinking. AI can write really well - but if you want to develop your own thinking you need to be able to write yourself!

What is the effect of giving children smartphones before the age of 13? It's bad. Strongly associated with poorer mental health and wellbeing. BUT the evidence is largely correlational. What does this mean? 🧵⬇️
