Everett NewsGuild ✊ Everett Herald The Everett Herald can end this strike by respecting its employees and coming to the bargaining table with real proposals. The Everett NewsGuild ✊ unionized two years ago, and the Herald continues to drag its feet with insulting wage offers ($19.50/hour). #EverettHeraldOnNotice

I'll miss Andrea Brown's column so much. She's a pitch perfect writer who has a knack for finding the delightfully weird pockets of everyday life. "What's up with that" is a reminder that newspapers should be fun to read, as well as informative. heraldnet.com/news/columnist…

Today's a hard day. Twelve of our members are working their final shift. We bargained tirelessly for a month, but Carpenter Media simply refused to spare any jobs. We were, however, able to negotiate optional buyouts, increased severance packages and raises for remaining staff.

Some news I haven't gotten around to sharing: early this month, I left Seattle to drive 86 miles north to my new home in Bellingham, WA. For the next two years, I'll be covering rural issues for Cascadia Daily News as part of the Murrow News Fellowship.

Carpenter Media presented the NewsGuild with a new wage proposal today, the company's first in about six months. It is, frankly, insulting. Perhaps most egregious, the company proposed $1.00 an hour bonus for "meeting newsroom minimum standards of 2-3 bylines per day."

I would love everyone to pause and think about what a day in the life of a solo photographer at Herald looks like when there is a 2-3 byline a day requirement for reporters……………..
