So sad about the loss of Professor Benjamin Zephaniah today. What a bundle of energy he was, bringing joy to so many people’s lives with the power of his words. He was such a kind man too - he did 2 brilliant events for BookTrust on his birthday this year! British society is poorer without him.

It’s #NationalIllustrationDay today. I’ve been trying to think back to which illustrators are most evocative of my childhood. Quentin Blake, obviously. Hergé. Scarry. The Ladybird illustrators, numerous books of facts, particularly cutaways and drawings full of detail.
