The world is lesser without Dave Parker. They’ll talk about a lot of on-field things when he goes into the Hall. But we owe him a debt for what he did for a generation of Black players. My 2024 piece for Andscape: andscape.com/features/dave-…

Today we remember the life of the late #EmmettTill, who was born on this date in 1941. Till was 14 years old when he was killed in 1955. His death would be a major catalyst in the Civil Rights Movement.

Emmett Till would have been 84 today. My dad is 84. I think about the many branches of a family tree that isn’t allowed to exist as a result of lynchings. I’m also reminded of how signs memorializing him have to be taken down because the worst people keep shooting them

This is horrific. I couldn’t have finished my book without the incredible archives at Amistad. It’s such an irreplaceable source of Black history. An avoidable and unnecessary mess.

This is the letter that #Bengals owner Mike Brown wrote me in 1992. I had asked his counsel on whether to forgo architecture school and pursue a course that would lead to become an NFL GM. It’s real, heartfelt and practical. In other words, Mike Brown. Happy Birthday!
