"Solar Orbiter is living up to its promise. We always knew it was going to be a fantastic mission and the early measurements are showing just how much potential there is for unprecedented insights into the Sun" – Prof Tim Horbury on ESA's Solar Orbiter ow.ly/ME9G50BJM7Z
My first paper on the radial and longitudinal variation of an ICME has recently been published in Solar Physics! 😃 Thank you to my co-authors, Bob, Simon and Emilia Kilpua! doi.org/10.1007/s11207…
We've submitted a paper! Exciting because 1) it's about the first CME seen by ESA's Solar Orbiter, 2) the spacecraft are located in excellent viewing/measuring positions, and 3) we see the CME get distorted by the solar wind as it travels towards Earth! arxiv.org/abs/2012.07456
Our paper on the first CME seen by ESA's Solar Orbiter has been published in the A&A Solar Orbiter First Results special issue! 💥💥 Check it out in all its formatted glory here: doi.org/10.1051/0004-6…
And here's how the ESA's Solar Orbiter CME turned out the morning after! Not too bad for a prediction using simple time shifting (just need to add some expansion now). Hope you lucky ones with the aurora enjoyed it!
Our team at the Austrian Space Weather Office Austrian Space Weather Office, GeoSphere Austria will be at the European Geosciences Union conference in Vienna, April 14-19. We are involved in convening 3 sessions on modeling, observations and forecasting of #solarstorms and AI applications. Abstracts are due January 10💀
A #solarstorm erupting on early Sun March 17 was observed by @SolarOrbiterMAG onboard ESA's Solar Orbiter, situated luckily right along the Sun-Earth line to measure its magnetic core. This is a perfect event to test CME forecasting with a long distance sub-L1 monitor. Buckle up!👇
In the ESA's Solar Orbiter Eruptive Events working group, we have an online meeting tomorrow Thursday September 26 16:00 CEST, with 3 speakers on first analyses of the May 2024 super geomagnetic storm. Sign up here - we have almost 400 members! sites.google.com/view/solo-wg/w…
