"My existence as a young mobility aid user means I am challenging people’s views of disability every day, but the weight that carries is just another layer of exhaustion." Fab as always from Charli Clement 🤍

Watching Gabe Adams-Wheatley’s (no_limbs_) instagram content and realising that magnetic eyelashes are an example of accessible fashion! People think accessible design is so different from non-disabled needs and this is a great example of how that’s not true! #fashion #disablity

When places say they are #Accessible I am sure many of them haven’t considered what would happen in an emergency eg a temporary ramp being put down to enter is then stored away and oh, can’t get out!

Yesterday we had our very first ATLAS drop in session, & also ATLAS Autism group! (Find out more about both in the thread below) During ATLAS, we started to make story backgrounds for our ATLAS characters for the #SurreyYouthVoice website. We enjoyed pizza, ice cream & had fun!

When you say people can’t “self-diagnose” with Autism, you’re saying Autism is just for rich people. I totally understand the sentiment if you’re new to the concept! But self-diagnosis isn’t a whim. It’s a long, serious process. And “official” diagnoses can cost thousands.

Just met a really rude person from #SurbitonStation SouthWesternRailway. They’re blocking off ALL the blue badge bays for rail replacement and saying ‘they can do what they want as it’s railway land’. #TakingTheDis #DisabilityTwitter #AccessFail Transport for All

The Autistic experience of having “panic attacks” for years and feeling stupid for not knowing what you were upset about… only to realize you’re having meltdowns

OCD is not fun. It is not enjoyable. And, as they say, it is most certainly not an “adjective”. It is a debilitating mental condition that destroys lives. That destroyed mine. That I am still healing from to this day.

So the next time you use the word, or should I say term, “OCD”. Please. *For the love of everything* Think. As using it so inaccurately to describe something you “enjoy” is the reason this disorder is portrayed the way it is. Remember. OCD = disorder Not your fun little quirk.

And if you have done so little reading about disability that you are using a medical model to discuss disability… don’t.

You can criticise Therese Coffey without bringing her appearance or weight into it. I mean, let’s talk about the fact she just REFUSED to release reports into how many disabled people the DWP killed for starters.

Expecting people to have a perfect handle on their health, to be on top of all their needs, and to be pursuing treatment for all things that need treatment (as HCPs routinely demand of disabled patients) is just repackaged eugenics. It’s health-supremacy and ableism.

If you use terms like “special needs/special educational needs” or similar, now would be a great opportunity to commit to switching them out for “disabled” ❤️♿️
