Humans are one of the few mammals that have both red and green cones. A stochastic gene regulatory mechanism was the main model in the field. Sarah Hadyniak, PhD in my lab changed the view, finding that retinoic acid controls their spatiotemporal patterning. journals.plos.org/plosbiology/ar…
