Super grateful for the chance to go deep with David Roberts on permitting, NEPA, and the side deal. With text reportedly coming in the next few days, this is all very timely. Wonky but high stakes!

This is a wonderfully informative thread that helps explain why the #BoltCreekFire is being managed the way it is, and what the short and longer-term tradeoffs are.

Alex Doukas Jesse D. Jenkins @jmcurtin Personally, I’d like to see a more nuanced take on what it means to ‘confront the power of the fossil fuel industry’. There is often an implicit assumption that figjting extraction does that, but I’m not so sure. Higher prices help the industry (and hurt the public) as noted.

One of the ironies is, if keeping fossil fuels in the ground is an actual goal (as opposed to just a slogan), then reducing fossil fuel demand is generally a more effective way to do that than fighting extraction. Sure, do both! But understand what each means and the trade-offs.

Came across this lightly edited recording of my testimony in Held v. Montana last week. Main message is Montana's role in CO2 emissions is greater than over half the countries of the world, and -- therefore -- significant. What will the verdict say? forthright.media/2023/06/18/hel…

A meta-analysis of 9 different models concludes that IRA will reduce US greenhouse gas emissions between 43 and 48% below 2005 levels by 2035. Such an epochal turning point, understood & appreciated by so few voters. science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

Glad to have contributed an expert letter with Fergus Green for this Shell case, on the topic of how the ruling would affect global GHG emissions
