42 fundamental rules of software engineering: 1) If you don’t do a system architectural design with well-defined interfaces, integration will be a big mess. 2) Design before coding. 3) If a project is late and you add more people, the project will be even later.

Just talked to a business owner who reduced his dev staff from 18 to 3 using generative AI. Claims he's getting the same velocity with only 3 devs. 2025 is going to be wild.

Today's "DeepSeek selloff" in the stock market -- attributed to DeepSeek V3/R1 disrupting the tech ecosystem -- is another sign that the application layer is a great place to be. The foundation model layer being hyper-competitive is great for people building applications.

That's what I've noticed, too. I was hopeful that 03-mini would give us even better AI dev, but it doesn't. Sonnet is still best for coding.

We went live with PowerSync this week (at Kitchen Copilot), and it's such a great platform. Having a local-first database for a mobile app sped up performance substantially, and will open up opportunities for offline use. PowerSync has been a great platform so far.

I've tried all of these AI coding tools Here are the strengths, weaknesses and when to use which: Cursor → Still best overall imo → Excels when your project gets big and complex → Steeper learning curve Users: advanced Windsurf → Same target audience as Cursor →

The human species runs the risk of merely being producers of training data for AI in a few hours Already, some people do nothing bur verify reasoning traces and get paid for it AI trainer may become the most popular job in the future 😱

Agentic AI is still working through security considerations. In my dev environment, it isn't supposed to have access to my .env file, so it worked around it by renaming the .env file, making a change, and renaming it back. It's creative, but a security violation.

Modern AI is not yet good at taking over your responsibilities. Only a small percentage of roles and jobs will be offloaded to GenAI in the near term. However, it is excellent at working alongside you as a copilot. The most effective people have mastered teaming up with AI.

Great idea to analyze the full git history to understand the codebase over time. That gives AI a much better understanding of the reasons behind various coding decisions.

This is so true for vibe programming. The times when you're so close, but yet so far, with an optimistic LLM telling you everything you want to hear.
