I’m starting a new position as a Propel Postdoctoral Scholar Stanford Medicine. I'm excited to not only start this new phase of my career but to also be a part of a community of people dedicated to building an inclusive, diverse, and equitable professoriate! #AcademicTwitter

Ever wonder how an integrative mobile genetic element knows when to integrate into the chromosome of a nascent host? You can find out by reading a preprint from my graduate work where we show that sometimes bacterial sex kills. #microbiology biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Pleased to share a co-first author publication from my grad school work. Here we show the search mechanism used by an ICE to find its integration site differs drastically from lambda phage. Unlike, lambda which remains near the point of entry, ICEBs1 traverses the cell interior.

So cool to be part of the same Stanford Propel cohort with Anthony Venida and be transitioning to HHMI #HannaGrayFellows. Flashback to discussing our applications last year to a coordinated hunt after work to find the last two copies of the The New York Times.

.@Saria McKeithen-Mead, PhD from Stanford University discusses her work to understand the ecological and evolutionary drivers of horizontal gene transfer in the gut microbiome and how this shapes the microbial communities that influence human health.
